Our Core Values
At SunHive, children connect with the earth by planting, cultivating, and harvesting their own food. Through this hands-on experience, they develop responsibility, patience, and a deep respect for the cycles of nature. Preparing meals together teaches life skills, teamwork, and the joy of nourishing their bodies with food they’ve grown themselves.
Why It Matters: This pillar nurtures not only the body but also the mind and spirit, fostering independence and a lifelong appreciation for sustainability and healthy living.
Creativity is the heart of learning at SunHive. From painting vibrant murals to composing melodies inspired by nature, children are encouraged to express themselves and explore their unique talents. Art and music are woven into every aspect of our curriculum, ensuring that creativity remains the keystone of both their education and their future endeavors.
Why It Matters: Studies show that creativity fuels innovation, problem-solving, and emotional well-being. By fostering creativity early, we prepare children to think boldly and live authentically.
SunHive students bring their creativity and hard work to life by participating in local markets. They learn to sell their homegrown food and handmade art, developing skills in communication, money management, and ethical entrepreneurship. These experiences empower children to understand the value of their contributions and their place in the wider community.
Why It Matters: Navigating the world of selling teaches adaptability, confidence, and critical thinking—skills that are essential in the 21st century. By engaging in entrepreneurial activities, children learn how to create opportunities and share their gifts with the world.
Food, Money, Spirit
As a Cooperative Movement, parents will not only be involved, but also educated.
As parents we have a lot to teach - and to learn.
At SunHive parents/guardians will be a part of the hive, sharing the wisdom they have gathered with the community.
This will look like leading activities for the children featuring parent's talents as well as simple volunteer days.
We'll also hold workshops that all members will participate in.
At the heart of these workshops, we'll explore our place in the world as humans and as guides to these little humans. As we shed the illusion that we are in control we can then lead our children into their destiny. The loss of illusion might then crack our hearts open to belonging to something far greater than our single selves, caring for and being cared for by others, something so crucial to the human being.
To know we are an intrinsic part of the Earth Community - both human and non-human - is one guiding principle that we aim to model for our children here.
